Dancing
If you want to learn to line dance or show off your rock ‘n roll skills on the dance floor, join the Rock and Roll Dancing Club every Monday night and Line Dancing Club every Thursday afternoon. Both clubs hold lessons in the lower level of the clubhouse with separate classes for beginners and for those with more of an intermediate to advanced skill set. There are also events throughout the year where you’ll have the opportunity to show off your new dancing skills such as Rock and Roll Night with live musicians such as the wonderful Pat Briscoe.
Music and literature
Talented musicians of Mount Gilead Estate organise jam sessions and music lessons that are open to all residents no matter the skill level, as well as often performing impromptu concerts that create an enchanting atmosphere across the estate. Music lessons and sessions are held in the library and are a great opportunity for residents to learn to play the guitar, showcase a new riff they’ve been working on or tickle the ivories among friends.
Book club
If you would rather read a good story than try and read music notes, then Book Club is for you. Whether you are a lifelong bookworm or a novel-reading novice, Book Club offers a platform for meaningful discussions on the written word, where residents can take imaginative journeys exploring a vast array of different genres and authors. This monthly gathering is one of the newest additions to the residents’ calendar of events and books are loaned to club members from the library.

Knitting and crocheting
The creative flow continues for residents, as there is also the Knitting and Crocheting Circle; a club that is full of warmth and kindness. The knitting and crocheting circle meets weekly where they have a yarn, make new friends, and create warm woolies.
Games
Game enthusiasts will be well pleased. Bocce starts off the week, then cards, pool and snooker follow next, and then darts right after that. If you’re competitive then you’ll love getting involved in these. A great way to do this is by joining the Community Workshop group. This group works on different community projects in the estate that in turn build and nurture strong community ties among residents. Garden Gurus is calling all green thumbs and budding garden enthusiasts to join in at the vegetable gardens to actively help grow fruits and vegetables to take home and put right onto your dinner plate; a deliciously good deed indeed!
Support group
We’ve all been through something in our lives that requires a friend to make you a hot cuppa while they lend an ear and listen. A great number of residents volunteer their time weekly in the lower clubhouse to provide support, empathy, and friendship to any residents that may be doing it tough. This group truly does highlight the genuine caring and empathetic nature that is at the heart of the community here.

Afternoon tea is provided free of charge during organised Fellowship meetings to all Fellowship members and no matter where you are with your faith, the group encourages all to join.

Seasonal celebrations
The calendar also highlights festive events organised around major holidays, such as Mother’s Day, Easter, and Christmas to name a few. These are significant times of year for many as well as times best spent celebrating with friends and loved ones.
