The hills of South-West Sydney were alive with the sound of music this past month when 32 of the village’s residents had front-row tickets to Broughton Anglican Colleges’ first showing of their rendition of the all-time classic, the Sound of Music. The musical, hailed as an all-time classic, captivated hearts and brought a wave of excitement throughout the community. Each scene unfolded with the utmost professionalism and passion, transporting the audience into the enchanting world of Maria, the von Trapp family, and their journey of love, resilience, and music. The college’s first showing of the musical was truly exceptional and could not have gone better, leaving an indelible mark on the minds of those who were fortunate enough to attend.
One of the great things about Mount Gilead Estate is the residents and their love of staying active and engaged in their wider Macarthur community. In true community spirit, one of the village residents noticed the flyer announcing that 150 tickets were available free of charge to any local resident who wished to see a rousing performance of the beloved musical, the Sound of Music. The musical was presented by Broughton Anglican Colleges’ talented performing arts department with 40 students taking centre stage for the special showing. Thanks to the residents’ community spirit and readiness to put their hand up for events like this, Mount Gilead Estate residents were able to obtain 32 free tickets and faster than you can say, ‘Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do!’ Mount Gilead Estate’s musical theatre enthusiasts were off across the alps, aka the rolling hills of Mount Gilead, and into Menangle.
The greeting from the school to Mount Gilead Estate’s attending residents was wonderfully warm and inviting. But little did our residents know, they were in for the complete VIP treatment with all the bells and whistles. The school went above and beyond to make sure our residents had an experience that was memorable, joyous, and genuine. Despite there being no allocated seating on the tickets, the school ensured our residents had front-row seats and went to the extent of having a registered nurse on hand at no additional charge should any of our residents require their assistance. Water and snacks were provided generously by Broughton Anglican College, with additional care taken for dietary requirements. This thoughtful attention to detail and care from the school made the residents’ experience truly unforgettable.
Additionally, the flawless execution of the performance left no room for disappointment, ensuring that the residents of Mount Gilead Estate were thoroughly immersed in its magical aura. As the final notes resonated through the air, the residents were left wanting more and encore after encore. If that isn’t an exceptional example of genuine care for the community matched with highly skilled creative and musicality then we don’t know what is.
As the harmonious melodies echoed through the venue, the residents found themselves captivated by the impeccable performances delivered by the young actors and actresses. The musical prowess displayed by the cast, combined with their unwavering dedication, left the audience spellbound. One of our lucky residents who watched the show in pure delight was Pamela Schuberg who described the students in the musical as, “absolutely outstanding, truly exceptional.” The actress who played Maria was the standout of the cast for her with, “a voice beyond compare.”
